Importance of HVAC:
We all know how important the installation and usage of all the HVAC equipment has become. The equipment comprising of different parts of HVAC have been mandated by the government of UAE to be used in all the buildings whether they are commercial, residential or any other.
The significance of smoke detecting devices, fire detecting devices, grilles, air conditioning and other equipment have been discussed earlier. Today another essential device need to be discussed is explosion prevention device in the building.
Main purpose:
The main purpose of this device is to prevent the building structure, equipment stored in the building and most importantly the occupant and residents from any explosion due to the high pressures which may result in a blow up. These explosion prevention devices generally protect air passages including both exhaust and supply vents in a robust structure.
Working:
Blast dampers are used to prevent any loss of life, material stored or equipment in the building by stopping the blow up forces from making entry through the ventilation of duct system. It may also happen that these forces or air pressure may enter from other installations of the building.
Construction:
The rigidly constructed explosion preventive devices are fully welded for the specific job. These devices comprise of two main sections. A specially designed debris catcher directs the explosive forces directly onto the blade pack. As a result of this it closes due to the explosive pressure. This results in the isolation of the blow up forces hence preventing the explosion which could have resulted in the all sorts of damage including life and equipment losses.
Adjusting of blades:
An explosion break mechanism is used to hold and adjust the open blade position. This adjustment and holding makes sure that then safety and reliability of the system are intact.
Dimensions and structure of explosion preventive device:
There are three main units of these explosion prevention devices used in the building structures
- Individual units
- Multiple units
- Individuals units come in the sizes of up to 1500mm square.
- Multiple units come as assembled together in a matrix. They are intended to cover bigger spaces as compared to individual units.
- The third type which is known as standard unit, they are constructed in stainless steel of 304 or 316.
The use of blast dampers is now considered as an integral part of the HVAC used to safeguard the building structures.
